Warlock and Cypher are Marvel Comics characters and members of the New Mutants, the X-Men’s junior team. Warlock is a member of a techno organic alien race. Warlock fled in an effort to avoid a confrontation with his father, Magnus. He arrived on earth with no ability to communicate with humans. Cypher, aka Doug Ramsey, was a mutant with the ability to understand and communicate any language. Cypher was called in by the New Mutants in order to communicate with Warlock. Because of Cypher’s lack of offensive abilities, he was often paired with Warlock, whose shape shifting allowed him to keep Cypher protected in battle. Both were killed over the course of the original New Mutants series, but they have both been returned to life in recent years.
